THESE 7 INTRODUCTORY LESSONS ARE A TASTER FOR A CONTINUING COURSE THAT WILL RUN THROUGH OUT THE YEAR.
“ We all know that we need time to learn, therefore the lessons can last as long as the student wants. “
1- Introduction to art – we’ll look at what is art and who is the artist. A brief journey to the history of art
Second part of lesson – approach to the students and analyse the many use of techniques through the centuries (alfresco, oil, acrylic, graffiti, watercolour, etc.)
2- Travel in the world of art, through the various artistic movements from the prehistoric to modern aboriginal art
3- How to read and analyse paintings - continue on with the practise
A technical approach on how to prepare the canvas, paints, brushes and other tools. How to use all the different colour mediums.
The analysis of the student’s artistic personality
A visit to the Art Gallery of S.A
A demonstration of painting techniques, followed by student’s practical exercises
An introduction to the history of drawing with pencil, charcoal, pastel, chalk, etc.
Domenico Palombo is a larger than life tutor. Every student in the class felt his passion for art.
He was demanding, challenging and lots of fun
The lesson he wants to teach is to be able to see the colour, composition, and soul of the artist.
He was not looking for a perfect work in anything we did.
He wants the student to see the basics, understanding how the composition is formed, with use of the colours in harmony. And a moment within the painting, that is alive.
He believes in using acrylic as a road to oil and the understanding of the base colour, the equilibrium of light and dark, using half tone to create mood. There will be at least 3-4 colours used in harmony making the whole composition
The class went to the Art Gallery with Domenico to understand the different artist’s methods, brush strokes, styles and so much more.
We made many paintings to understand what colours were used in any one painting. The examples we painted were in abstract style, we were amazed at the compositions we made with the colours taken from the painting of Australian and European works of the impressionist era.
We advance to doing a copy of a master trying to create the same mood and atmosphere the original artist was aiming for.
This was six weeks of intense learning.
